Long-term Happiness

Long-term Happiness

Do you feel unhappy and tired? Do you feel like you are stuck in a routine that you dread? Do you feel anxious and joyless? If you are not suffering from a serious mental health condition – which is not the topic of this post – then, I argue this symptom is your subconsciousness trying to tell you something.

This anxiety is the manifestation of the realisation, that you are not living up to your true potential. This is not a bad thing per se, as it can be a catalyst for change.

If you are unhappy, find the underlying unfulfilled desire. Pick your one, overwhelming desire and suffer over it. Don’t sweat the rest. [1]

Desire can be a powerful tool to unlocking your potential.

But what is desire really?

Desire is a contract that you make with yourself to be unhappy until you get what you want. [1]

Many drift and stumble through life and complain that they are victims of circumstances, without realising they can be masters of their own destiny.

Don’t be a victim, be a master.

But it’s not just desire that will lead you to success, but also action.

It is imminent that you take action now, and don’t wait. Many think that there is a new chance every day, that they remain the same person every day and that it’s okay to start tomorrow. It is a false belief.

You are not the same person you were yesterday. You are older, slower and weaker. You don’t stagnate – You regress. Regression makes you vulnerable to anxiety. But it can be overcome by personal growth. Growth is the antidote to the darkness that is self-doubt.

So take aim, even badly. Set goals and pursue them. [2]

But how can you take action?

The recipe to achieving your dreams is simple.

A dream written down becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action becomes reality. [3]

What about happiness?

Start the journey and the answer will reveal itself to you in due course.

When you realise that meaning is found in working hard on pursuits that interest you, yet challenge you and force you to grow – happiness becomes a natural byproduct.

You are the forger of your own destiny. Reality can bend to your will. [4]

If you realise this – you will become unstoppable.
